3 Tips For Buying An Air Hockey Table

When you look through the product listings at a sports store, on amazon or any other retail websites on the internet, the first thing that comes to mind is how technology has made even the simplest choices very complicated. I have walked into stores before and walked out just because I couldn’t get a read on any of the products.

It’s a very common feeling with buying an air hockey table too , especially when you’re trying to get the best air hockey table.

Therefore, to make things easier for you, I’ll make sure that the techy stuff is reviewed as an option so that you don’t get distracted from the real value of the table. The major purchase considerations for an air hockey table are as follows;

1). The Table size :

There are many factors to consider in this category such as the size of the room you intend to install it in. If you go by how excited you are by what you see on your screen, or what you’ve seen in the stores without giving much thought to being comfortable while playing, then you probably won’t enjoy your purchase.

Bigger is always better and when it comes to fun, limits are boring and overbearing. However, you might need to make that one compromise so that you can at least enjoy playing the game without injuring an elbow right in the middle of an intense game. That’s a huge buzz kill.

One other factor in this category is how you intend to install it. If the space you have can’t accommodate a permanent installation, it means you would have to assemble the table every time you want to play and then move it back into storage afterwards.

If this is the case, you should go for a light table with easy assembly and features such as leg levelers. It’s bad enough that you have to go through the stress of installation every time you feel the urge to play. You shouldn’t have to consult the installation guide every single time too.

2). Materials Used in the manufacture :

High quality materials mean longer life span, which also means that you get to enjoy value for your money for longer than usual. Looking for them in all the parts might cost you more than it should, so look out for parts that are constantly exposed to pressure and fortify them.

For example, look out for a play field that is coated with wear-resistant laminate for increased durability. Make sure that the rink walls are made of nylon or high-density aluminum so that repeated impact of the puck on it doesn’t dent it easily. The motor installed in the table must have the LU seal of approval for guarantee and make sure that it has a plenum chamber for even distribution of air.

Other things to consider in this category include the material used for the frame of the table, the leg levelers, the weight of the puck, etc. As far as materials like the puck are concerned, they are easily replaceable, and as such shouldn’t be given that much preference.

So, if you see as review that doesn’t appreciate the quality of the puck, you can still make do with a good table and get a better puck whenever you want. They aren’t that expensive.

3). Scoring System and Electronics implants :

Here’s the part I talked about earlier.

You can choose to go either way with the scoring system, but technology always makes things easier. The manual scoring system might require you to shift a bean every now and then, while the digital system is automated. Also, the digital option looks more futuristic and draws more attention.

As far as the other electronic features are concerned, they aren’t all that important. However, there’s no denying that the sounds put the players in a tense mood and sets them just right for mean rounds of competitive fun. The lighting could also work for you if you would like to play in a dimly lit room, with the detailed scoring system bearing over the table like the true judge that it is. If this appeals to you, then by all means, add it to your list.

Other Considerations :

Some other things to consider include the overall appearance of the table, the adaptability of the table to other games, the powering system, the safety precautions taken by the manufacturer and even the warranty. Most of these aren’t as potent as the aforementioned considerations, but that doesn’t mean you should overlook them.

However, the lesson to be learnt is that as long as it fits your personal living condition and matches your taste, you should be happy with your purchase.
